The aim of this research is to assess the extent to which textbook authors focus on enhancing students' various thinking skills and emphasize appropriate thinking methods according to their age, based on Clauses 2, 3, and 7 of the fourth section of the Supreme Leader’s general policies on educational transformation. This study examines the main lessons of the ninth-grade Persian textbook and its self-assessment section based on the components of creative thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, correcting misconceptions, critical thinking, and metacognition.
The research is applied in terms of its objective, qualitative in approach, and employs a documentary-library method for data collection, with a descriptive-analytical method for content analysis. The findings indicate that the ninth-grade Persian textbook has effectively contributed to promoting and teaching a culture of thinking in accordance with the general policies of educational transformation (Clauses 2, 3, and 7 of the fourth section). The lesson texts align well with the document’s provisions regarding the application of diverse and effective teaching-learning methods. The most frequently used thinking method in the lesson content is analogical reasoning (71.25%), while the least utilized is correcting misconceptions (2.85%), with no use of metacognitive thinking. Similarly, in the self-assessment section, reasoning is the most frequently applied method (26.6%), whereas correcting misconceptions is the least employed (2.2%).
